I am sorry to say that Africa will remain in its current state of a resource rich playground conquered by the developed world (read: the collective "West") for as long as it follows the "carbon reduction" propaganda gibberish peddled by those same colonial powers.
In Bob Marley's words, it has to emancipate itself from mental slavery if it wants to regain its sovereignty and start deciding for itself!
Fadhel, like you, I am a huge fan of Bob Marley. Like you also, I long for the day the United States of Africa would summon leaders of European states to its summits.
I feel revulsion when I see these group photos of African leaders which are taken after they’ve been summoned to Europe by their neo-colonial master for one bilateral economic summit or another. Imagine Italy summoning 56 heads of states of African nations to a meeting.
More importantly, these summits are fools errand. The colonisers do not have it within them to act in a manner that’s non-exploitative. The colonisers will always colonise and exploit. Why does Africa - the land of the leopards - continue to trust the west? Who, better than us, know that leopards don’t change their spots?
I agree the West needs to ditch its colonial ways. They caused half the world's emissions, and are still being hypocritical about climate change and helping others. But it is also a fact that major progress in recent decades happened there. I am writing this on a Mac, using chrome browser. Economic prosperity is proportional to carbon emissions. Wouldn't it be hypocritical for me to criticise the west while using their services on a day-to-day basis? How do you balance these two perspectives?
Africa deserves better than this. Especially from the likes of the EU and the US. Seems as if the plan Italy has for them is fools gold.
